01 Acceptance of terms
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Geektechnotonic’s family tree and genealogy software (the “Service”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you’re using the Service on behalf of an organization, you’re agreeing on that organization’s behalf.
02 The service
Geektechnotonic provides tools to build and organize family trees, search historical records, generate charts and reports from templates, run structural checks on your tree, and sync your data across devices with cloud backup. We may add, change, or remove features from time to time.
03 Accounts
You need an account to use most of the Service. You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country if higher, to create an account.
04 Subscriptions & billing
Some features require a paid subscription. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge the payment method on file on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your plan) until you cancel. Prices are shown at checkout and may change with advance notice.
Free trials convert to a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before it ends. You can cancel anytime from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we don’t provide refunds for partial periods except where required by law.
05 Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to violate anyone else’s rights, including privacy rights.
- Upload content you don’t have the right to share, or that infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, or attempt to reverse-engineer it beyond what the law allows.
- Use automated means to scrape or bulk-extract data from the Service without our written permission.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
06 Your content
You retain ownership of the family tree data, photographs, documents, and other content you upload (“Your Content”). By uploading Your Content, you grant us a limited license to host, store, back up, sync, and display it back to you (and to anyone you choose to share it with) solely for the purpose of operating the Service.
You’re responsible for Your Content and for having a reasonable basis to include information about other people — including relatives — in your tree.
07 Shared trees & collaborators
If you invite others to view, comment on, or edit your tree, you control what access they’re given and can revoke it at any time. We’re not responsible for disputes between collaborators about tree content, though we’ll assist with account-level access issues where we reasonably can.
08 Our intellectual property
The Service — including its software, design, chart templates, and the Geektechnotonic name and logo — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms don’t grant you any rights to our trademarks or branding beyond what’s needed to use the Service normally.
09 Third-party records & services
The Service may let you search or link to historical records and archives operated by third parties. We don’t control those third-party sources, don’t guarantee the accuracy of records they return, and aren’t responsible for their content, availability, or terms. Use of any third-party service is subject to that provider’s own terms.
10 Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that record hints or search results will be accurate or complete — genealogical research inherently involves incomplete and sometimes conflicting historical sources.
11 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Geektechnotonic won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
12 Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Geektechnotonic harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms.
13 Termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or for legitimate business reasons with reasonable notice where practical. On termination, your right to use the Service ends, though provisions that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
14 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction to be specified], without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in [location to be specified], unless applicable law requires otherwise.
15 Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
